Shoulder replacement surgery is a surgical procedure used to treat arthritis pain in the shoulder or severe fractures of the shoulder.  It involves replacing the ball and socket of the shoulder joint with a stem that fits into the humerus (upper arm bone), a ball which replaced the head of the humerus (upper arm bone), and a liner in the shoulder socket.
